I HELP TENNIS PLAYERS STAY ON THE COURT

YEAR-ROUND

WITHOUT INJURIES

Amy Briggs,PT,MS

Hi, I’m Amy Briggs, PT, MS, CFSC. I became a physical therapist after my dream of playing NCAA Division I Tennis was derailed by elbow and shoulder injuries.

I have worked in hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation centers, and long-term care facilities over the course of my career, but have found my work with athletes of all types the most rewarding, whether in their homes or in the clinic. Since I believe that there’s an athlete in every one of us, my biggest challenge/frustration as a clinician is having to release someone from my care before they are completely ready to resume their favorite sport or activity, only to have them return to me weeks or months later with a new injury. I founded Body By Briggs Integrated Wellness in order to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance: once recovery from pain or injury is complete, I don’t just disappear! I then transition from therapist to coach, and am able to create personalized wellness programs that keep those favorite activities pain-free and even more enjoyable.

While I continue to enjoy working with active people of all ages, I have never lost that special place in my heart for the tennis player. I remember far too well my days of being in so much pain that I couldn’t even hold a pencil-much less a racquet, or the feeling that my being injured was also letting down my coaches and teammates. I don’t want anyone else who loves this sport as much as I do to have those experiences: whether that player is a promising junior who is pushing to take his or her game to the next level, or a league player who doesn’t want to miss out on post-match get-togethers. Because my practice is mobile, I am able to treat at home, at the office, or even on the court. I have found that this practice model is the best way for me to reach the goal I had when I entered physical therapy school: to keep tennis players on the court year-round injury free.
